6-Month Mentoring

Long-term mentoring is where the magic happens.

As outlined below, booking this mentorship will support you in becoming a Smiling Scholar.

It can completely alter your level of production, quality, and, most importantly, enjoyment within academia.

Please note: the Smiling Scholar’s expertise is within the social sciences and therefore does not take on mentoring in other areas.

What might be included?

– Monthly (6 in total) 1 hour-long check-ins
As a Smiling Scholar, you will have a monthly check-in to discuss the progress and hiccups experienced in your time management, practices, and use of resources. You will receive personalised mentoring over a virtual, one-to-one call.

– Publishing guidance
The Smiling Scholar will take you through the publishing process (i.e. how to find an appropriate journal, how to find and implement the criteria, how to submit and revise).

– Continuous deadline management support
Academia, especially PhDs, often have deadlines that are spread fairly far apart. Alternatively, you may be moving through a degree where you are managing many, even over-lapping, deadlines. As a Smiling Scholar, you will receive mentoring in how to best plan your own deadlines to keep on track throughout your degree.

– Mentoring and soundboarding during a degree
This is not in reference to the research itself, but rather your ability to approach your degree in a manner where you are no longer “juggling” everything. You will have a plan and can then focus on your work with limited stress and optimal enjoyment.

– Guidance via email
You can address concerns or obstacles you are facing, as well as share triumphs, via email. This will not consist of information that is better directed at your supervisor/s, therapist, or other university staff or mental health professionals.

– Streamlining and polishing your process longterm
This extends past the tips you would receive in a 1-hour mentoring call and coaches you in refining and further developing practices over time.

–  Establishing your academic presence
Smiling Scholars also find reasons to smile through the networking and results they achieve through their strong online presence on platforms such as LinkedIn, ResearchGate, Twitter, and so on. You can be mentored on where and how to present yourself as a scholar.

… And more – we will discuss in our initial call what you wish to gain from this mentorship.
